What skills are most in demand by industry, what are employers looking for?

It depends on the job and industry. In saying that, PEOPLE skills and ADAPTIBLITY (especially after COVID-19) are the most highly valued skillsets in all industry. In Clinical Research and Pharmaceutical industries, things can change rapidly, so you have to adapt quickly to new changes to find solutions to meet the new situation or regulatory demands. Therefore, PEOPLE skills & ADAPTIBLITY are essential.

The important thing you need to understand is what those skills really mean. In fact, people skills include a diverse range of skillsets. It’s not just the generic definition that you find on Google.

For example, for the clinical project manager position, organizational skill is essential. In fact, the clinical project manager is responsible for the delivery of the entire clinical trial project from start to finish. If they are not organised then the trial success could be at risk, and the sponsor (Pharmaceutical companies) can be at risk of losing a lot money already invested in the trial. People management is also a non-negotiable skill because project managers interact with so many stakeholders to get things moving and if they can’t influence the people they are in charge of and work with, things can’t move along. For the Clinical Research Associate (CRA) role, essential skills include attention to details (active listening) and effective communication skills, which again are part of people skills, because they are constantly interacting with various hospital staff, and sponsor.

Therefore, for every job, it is essential to get the right support around you that provides training and coaching for the specific skills required by the employer.

Clueo Clinical’s coaching partners specialise in leadership skills and communication so that besides industry-relevant soft skills, our trainees are equipped with the leadership skills for them to become the next industry leaders.
